Best Skincare routine for Oily Skin

by MohammadAli Kadiwal 06 Jul 2022

Having oily skin can be a big hassle. What’s more? It is often difficult to find a routine that truly works for your skin. Your body produces natural oils to lock-in moisture and to keep your skin hydrated. The problem arises when your body starts producing too much natural oil, leading to oily skin.

Certain factors beyond your control such as hormonal changes or genetics. Whatever the reason is, a good skincare routine will help you to combat oily skin. A morning skincare routine will ensure that your face is protected from the dirt, dust, and pollutants that may aggravate your skin cells. On the contrary, your evening skincare routine should be focused on reversing the skin damage of the day.

Without further ado, let's dive in and find out the best skincare routine for oily skin -

The Morning Skin Care Routine You Need :

1. Cleanser

Start your routine with a cleanser, it is one of the most important steps of any skincare routine. This is because, during the night, your skin is busy shedding skin cells and producing natural oils. Even though you may not feel its presence, it builds up in your skin. As a result, it becomes essential that you thoroughly cleanse your face in the morning with a gentle exfoliating cleanser. For people with oily skin, a cleanser that has salicylic acid works well. Use a cleanser to wash away the buildup and prevent the forming of pores.

2. Toner

Toners help you achieve plump and glowing skin. They also clean up clogged pores and help you get rid of acne. After you have cleansed your face from dirt, makeup, and oil - follow up with an exfoliating toner. A toner will hydrate your skin and improve the effectiveness of using a cleanser. For oil skin, choose a toner that contains either glycolic acid, salicylic acid, or lactic acid.

3. Moisturizer

Contrary to popular belief, a moisturizer will help you to combat oily skin. After using a toner, follow it up immediately with a moisturizer. A moisturizer will help you re-hydrate, soothe, and nourish your skin cells. However, you need to be careful with the kind of moisturizer you use on oily skin. The best option is to go for a product that is designed to combat acne and oily skin. If you can't find it, go for a moisturizer that is lightweight, water-based, and free from oils.

4. Sunscreen

This is the final touch in your morning skincare routine. Try to go for a sunscreen that's at least SPF-30 or more. You can also try a moisturizer that combines a sunscreen so you get the dual benefits in one product. While using a sunscreen, try to opt for one which has titanium dioxide or zinc oxide. These elements prevent acne breakouts and are great to combat oily skin.

Evening Skin Care Routine

Once you’re done with the day, you should follow the routine again for the best results. The routine will not only remove any build-up or dirt but will also help you combat oily skin gently and softly.

1. Cleanser

Cleansing is very important in the evening too. A good exfoliating cleanser will help you to get rid of dirt, dust, makeup, and build-up accumulated throughout the day. Use a light, water-based cleanser. It is highly recommended that you wash your face at least twice daily. However, you should refrain from washing your face too often (more than 4-5 times daily). You should also avoid cleansers with alcohol content, as this may further irritate oily skin.

2. Toner

You must pick a toner that will hydrate your skin and give it a fresh feel. Scientifically, toners having alpha-hydroxy acids and beta-hydroxy acids have proven to be effective against skin pigmentation and acne. Toners are essential to maintain the PH balance and rehydrate your skin after a long day.

3. Moisturizer

Moisturization is essential, both in the morning and evening. Moisturizers that contain salicylic acid have proven to be the most effective against oily skin. Additionally, you should check if your moisturizer has the presence of zinc, glycolic acid, or Retinaldehyde. These elements are often found in cosmetics and they help in treating acne, unclogging pores, and help with a wide range of skin conditions.

4. Eye Cream

Eye creams help you to avoid the dark circles and puffy look around your eyes. They are infused with peptide acid to reverse pigmentation. For sensitive skin, go for natural ingredients such as caffeine which will soothe the skin circles around your eyes. Eye creams with hyaluronic acid will help to retain moisture and get quickly absorbed into oily skin.

Conclusion

Oily skin is a common problem which a lot of us have faced. With the right products and information in your arsenal, you can bid oily skin good-bye. Just make sure that you diligently follow a skincare routine and get the right skincare products. Additionally, your general lifestyle and diet might also help you to combat oily skin. Try including foods rich in Omega-3 (such as salmon, nuts, avocados) and those rich in water and citrus (lemons, oranges, etc). Never over-exfoliate, and try including water-based and light, natural products in your routine.
